Texas Holdem Basics

Online Gambling Casino Guide

Texas Hold 'Em poker is by far the best game for a beginner to learn because it will only take you a couple of minutes to discover the most exciting card game and arguably, the most popular poker game in the world. It is thought to be a descendent of other poker games like Omaha High or 7 card stud, which involves a great many more possibilities than Texas Hold ’Em, for calculating odds. Texas Hold'Em can be learned in a very short time by anyone, and you will be playing fairly well with a few hours practice. However, you will need to play the game play fairly often in order to become a champ at it.

You have not doubt whatched the no-limits version of Texas Hold'Em on television with all its thrills and the wacky charachters who play Texas Hold'Em and now you are ready to learn to play.

With up to ten people playingTexas Hold'Em at once, Players are dealt two cards each (called the hole cards), and five community cards are dealt by the dealer, with a round of betting preceding each new community card. Players need to make the best five card hand out of the five community cards and two hole cards. Note that you do not have to use the two hole cards in your hand. You can use both, only one or none of them.

  • Texas Hold'em Poker has four rounds of betting and is one of the fastest games in a poker room.
  • The object of the game is to finish with the best poker hand, and win the pot.
  • The number of Players that can play Texas Hold'em Poker ranges from 2 to 10.
  • Note: If two or more Players have the same winning hand, the pot is split equally between them.

Texas Hold'em plays as follows:

  1. The Players to the left of the Dealer begin the game by posting the blind bets. The Player on the Dealer's left posts a small blind, and the Player on the Small Blind's left posts a big blind bet.

Note:
The Dealer's position at the table changes after every game. The dealer-button shows the Dealer's position at the table.

  1. Two pocket cards are dealt to each Player.

  2. In the first round, the Player to the Big Blind's left plays first and can either:
    1. Fold
    2. Bet
    3. Raise

Note:

  1. In the first round, betting is capped at one bet and three raises per Player.
  2. The Big Blind is the only Player who can Check in the first round of betting.

  3. In the second round, three community cards are dealt. This is called the Flop. Players can either:
    • Check
    • Fold
    • Call
    • Raise

Note:
The first two rounds of betting are at the lower limit, and the last two rounds are at the higher limit. For example, in a $2/$4 game, the first two rounds are at $2   and the last two rounds are at $4.

  1. In the third round, a fourth community card is dealt, called the Turn. Another round of betting follows.

  2. In the fourth round a fifth and final community card is dealt, called the River Card. This is followed by the final round of betting. The remaining Players then use their two pocket cards and the five community cards to create the best five-card hand possible. The winner takes the pot.

Note:
If two or more Players have the same hand, the pot is split equally between them. Any odd chips go to the Player nearest the Dealer.
